In this online art class, the child was painting alongside an older student. Her strong competitiveness made her feel pressured—she even showed her work briefly on the screen before quickly hiding it, reflecting her tension and self-doubt in the moment of comparison.
Later, she transformed this pressure into the painting itself. The Venus flytrap was no longer just a plant; it turned into a bloody monster. Her artwork became a world of imagination, projection, and inner struggle.
1. Colors and Emotions: The gray background conveys heaviness, the red blood highlights tension and resistance, while the green monster embodies pressure itself.
2. Character and Action: The winged, sword-wielding figure is a heroic projection of the self. By stabbing the monster, the child regains a sense of control and power.
3. The Cat Symbol: The small cat in the top right corner looks relaxed and cute, acting as a guardian or companion and symbolizing the child’s softer side and her need for support. More importantly, the cat was added at the end, because the child felt she had drawn it better than her peer. This makes the cat not only a companion but also a “cheer of victory,” representing her moment of self-recognition and triumph in the face of pressure and comparison.
4. Psychological Message: This is not simply about gore—it’s a metaphor for “defeated pressure.” The child is not trying to harm her peer but is instead externalizing her stress into a monster that can be conquered.
This artwork shows how a child uses art as a process of self-regulation. Through imagination, creating, projection, and ultimately healing through art making, She found a way to transform inner tension into an empowering narrative.
